The Voyage of a Lifetime on the Great Trade Routes
This book is a guide to the planning and booking of a journey on a cargo ship. On these types of ships there are no casinos, dancing-girls or musical entertainers. There is only one restaurant and the wine list is short. If you need diversions like these to enjoy yourself, then this book isn’t for you. Instead
- If you’ve been carrying inside yourself for a long time the dream to travel by sea...
- If you have the dream of a different kind of passage away from the mundane tourist trail...
- If you have in you the desire for genuine adventure and escape...
- If you want to live an adventure you'll never forget...
Booking a journey on a cargo ship is complicated. Travel agents are not interested to help you because they have low profit margins and shipping companies don't advertise this kind of voyage. You must go to an agent specializing in this kind of booking.
Nobody will help you you have to pick the route, prepare the boarding documents, obtain medical certificates and so on.
Thanks to my experience and mistakes, I have been able to define some simple steps, thus enabling you to travel on a cargo ship. Even if you don’t have any money put aside. Even if you are lacking knowledge of where to start gathering information and the necessary documents. These are all procedures I have followed for my voyages. It’s a tried and tested method. And it works.
If you follow the steps described in this book you will be able to leave within a year, with only slight modifications to your current lifestyle.
Each chapter of this book will clearly explain what to do. How to set your budget, find the money for the trip, which shipping companies to contact, which documents you need and how to obtain them. Life on a cargo ship is described, including interviews with people who have experienced it. You will find advices on how to cope if you are vegetarian, vegan or have specific food intolerances.
Start packing now and be ready for the Voyage of a Lifetime.
How to plan a journey on a cargo ship Sail now and have the adventure of your life Federico Lepri 9780993281655 Books
Right now, I'm wondering if I even trust myself to cross the street unaccompanied, let alone plan a solo "bucket list" trip 1/2 way around the world hopefully including some cargo ship travel. In 90-some double-spaced pages there are maybe 2 or 3 nuggets of information that are just beyond common sense.Way too much ink is sacrificed to some hare-brained scheme about how you make a box to keep your travel funds in and keep yourself motivated. Like you are going to use this box to make several thousand dollars appear out of a subsistence income and be off to watch whales, dolphins and seagulls; oh, and stars at night too. Did I mention dolphins? Yeah, there'll be dolphins in every other chapter and the Milky Way!
I'm eating the $5.00, sending the book back and will look for a self-motivation book -or a magic box!- to get myself out of my funk and back to planning my trip.
Two free nuggets: you have to book a year in advance and you need to camp out at the departure point for a week so you don't miss the boat. Bon Voyage!

How to plan a journey on a cargo ship Sail now and have the adventure of your life Federico Lepri 9780993281655 Books Reviews
An interesting look into alternative methods of travel and life on the open sea, very enjoyable and well written would highly recommend
This book opened my eyes to a type of modern travel that I never knew existed. Federico Lepri describes slow-paced cruises, interesting company, top quality food, wine at the captain's table and a view of the world that even millionaires never get to see.
Cargo ships are built with a number of large cabins for important guests. There's no point in these going empty so shipping companies make them available to travelers. If you know how to find them. This is a real 'how to do it' treasure for those who want to get off the beaten track on a voyage between continents. No boring beaches here. Just a re-connection with nature, people and a form of seafaring that's been going on longer than history.
Interesting.
I was excited to find this book, and ordered it immediately. Unfortunately, it was all downhill from there.
To start, it is about 90 pages, so a pretty slim volume. Additionally, the lines of type are triple spaced, so in reality there are probably only about 60 pages if they were spaced normally. And amongst those few pages, the author wastes several of them talking about some family going around the world by bicycle . . . this section was so boring I didn't even read most of it. It had nothing to do with any sea voyage I might like to take. Who cares about that unknown family?
I was hoping this book would have comprehensive information and comparisons about different shipping lines. No such luck, as there are only two lines mentioned. Only two? Surely there are more than that in the world? The author discusses only two areas of the world's shipping routes.
There was a lot of what (in my opinion) is wasted space talking about how to save up for your voyage. Really? I'd assume that readers were adults and they don't need to be told that if they drink coffee at home each day instead of buying that $4 espresso, in a year they could save enough to pay for the voyage!
There was some useful info about approximate prices, dining and so on, but overall this book was very disappointing. I think the author's knowledge is limited and probably if I spent a few hours online, I could learn much more 'piecemeal' rather than buy an $18 book (heck, that's nearly five espressos' worth).
A fun read even if I never have a chance to ride a cargo ship. The book is easy to read and follow. The book is 87 pages long and the lines are double spaced. The subject matter tells in basic form, how one goes about riding a freighter and what to expect. The book is newer, with a copyright date of 2016. I have dreamed about riding a freighter, and this book was an insight for me.
